Representative of Plovput attended meetings with officials from the European Union institutions, in Brussels on 3-5th of January 2010, as a member of the Serbian delegation led by Mr. Bozidar Djelic, deputy prime minister of the Government of the Republic of Serbia. The goal of the visit was inclusion of Serbia in the process of preparation of the European Strategy for Danube Region. This strategy defines financing of projects related to economics, transport, environment and culture of the macro-region in the basin of the longest European river.
During the visit, Serbian delegation had a chance to speak to Mr. Dirk Ahhner – director of DG REGIO (EU Directorate- General for Regional Policy). EU officials gave assurance that Serbia will be treated as EU member states during proposing and financing projects related to IWW management, construction of roads,bridges, ports, energy, freight terminals, tourist facilities, development of economic potentials and environmental protection. Six Danubean countries which are members of EU, as well as Serbia, Croatia, Moldova, and Ukraine, will be included in the preparation and implementation of this strategy.
