During 2009, the Directorate for Inland Waterways Plovput purchased the new model (second generation) of Carmanah solar navigational lamps, model M650. The plan is to successively introduce new solar lamps and to replace the earlier model M601, since they are reaching their exploitation deadline. Visibility of of new lamps has doubled (from 3,5km to 7km), which will improve navigation safety on inland waterways in the Republic of Serbia. Besides, their main characteristic is enhanced durability and longer exploitation period in comparison to lamps of the earlier generation.
These new lamps will be installed and used, for the first time, at Formula 1 race, and that information speaks on their quality. On Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi, on November the 1st 2009, the first Formula 1 race in the history, that starts in dusk and ends at night, will be driven. The task of new solar lamps is to make as easy as possible for drivers the transition from day to night driving conditions. Plovput started to modernize IWW marking system in the Republic of Serbia in 2004, when first lamps (model M601) were purchased. The whole Serbian stretch of the Danube Rive was covered until the end of 2006. The same system was implemented on the whole Serbian stretch of the Tisza River in 2008.
